Waking up at the dojo
—————————-
Last night after Tim’s glorious celebration:| I went to Chieko-san’s house to sleep. I took a short ofuro (hottub) and felt more relaxed than I think I ever have in my life. I fell asleep pretty quickly. We came back here to the dojo at 6am for the end of morning prayers.
Chieko stayed upstairs as she is on the 3rd day of a dry fast, and has basically been chanting all 3 days. She stopped to sleep, work, and use the bathroom. Its pretty admirable.
While she was upstairs, the three monastics - Kato Shonin, Tow-bee Shonin, Sister Clare - and I had breakfast.
I brought up a book I was reading last night on Buddhism and celibacy, which sparked an interesting discussion on life, core values, love, and discipline. :|
After breakfast I did the dishes, and Sister Clare saw how exhausted I was and encouraged me to take a nap. Taking her advice, I collapsed onto the couch, fairly certain that I wouldn’t sleep.
It is now almost 12 and I am just waking up. Its just a very relaxed atmosphere today. The sound of this gentle rain falling blends with the drum, and Chieko’s chanting. SRC is on the phone, and the two monks are leaning over the two opposite ends of the table, drinking their tea and catching up on paperwork. Ahh, a beautiful day at the office.
:] <3 I’m going to finish my tea and eat cake. Aurevoir.
